A new nine-part goal series has launched in FarmVille this afternoon, bringing with them a new character named Mac that wants to spend all of his time outside studying the trees and plants on your farms. This series is called Arborist's Adventure, and according to FarmVilleFreak, you'll earn items like Unwither Potions, animals, trees and more by completing them all. Just keep in mind that they'll only be available for a limited amount of time, so you want to work on them sooner, rather than later, to have the best chance of finishing them all.

Alarming Acorns Get 4 Acorns Harvest 50 Pumpkins Harvest 2 Aviaries
For this "Get 4 Acorns" task, and all other tasks that ask you to "Get" a specific number of items, you'll need to ask your friends to send them to you. For completing this first goal, you'll receive 120 XP, a Spotted owl and 2,500 coins.

Strap yourself in for a wild ride in Adventure Park on Facebook

While there have been quite a few attempts at creating a successful amusement park simulation game on Facebook, even the most successful of games have failed to stick around for the long haul (Zynga's Roller Coaster Kingdom, for instance, reached 15 million players, but was closed in 2010). Hoping to break that trend and really pull in the players is iZ's Adventure Park, a colorful and charming theme park simulation game that is now available to play on Facebook.

The game's isometric viewpoint and small, yet detailed items immediately make the game comparable to something like Zynga's CityVille, and for the most part you can think of the game here as that of a city-builder. However, instead of homes, you're building attractions for your guests to ride, with businesses like souvenir stalls to bring in extra cash. You'll also be able to place a variety of entertainment options in your park, which are run using "workers."

Workers are your park's staff, and they're limited in quantity. Once you build some maintenance facilities, you can use those to hire more workers for your park (the more you hire, the more expensive they become), and you'll be able to spread those workers out based on how long you'd like their shifts to last and how much you'd like to pay / earn in exchange.

There's a basic quest system in place that will help you progress by asking you to build themed items (an Easter quest series is now available, for instance), and you must always balance the number of decorations and rides you have in your park based on your guests' happiness (measured by a bar in the bottom corner of the screen).

In terms of social elements, you'll run into the standard quests that ask you to collect items with your friends' help, and you can also visit your friends' amusement parks in order to earn coins and reputation hearts with your five free daily energy. Again, this is all very reminiscent of CityVille, but with an amusement park theme, rather than a standard city-builder.

Overall, there's a lot of charm and whimsy to Adventure Park, as items aren't restricted to realism and are incredibly themed with plenty of soft shapes and bright colors. If there were an award for "cutest Facebook game," Adventure Park would definitely be in the running, but it does admittedly lack some of the complexity and depth that a hardcore Facebook gamer might be looking for. Still, if you have yet to find a theme park game that really does it for you, this one is definitely worth giving a shot.

Adventure World End of the Rainbow Expedition: Everything you need to know

It's time for St. Patrick's Day in Adventure World, with a series of new Expeditions now being available to celebrate. You'll find yourself investigating magical hedge mazes in your search for the end of the Rainbow in an Expedition of the same name: End of the Rainbow. There are three quests to complete in this first Expedition, and you'll have six days to finish them all. Let's get started on our guide!

End of the Rainbow Ask friends for 10 Charm BraceletsCollect 10 Lucky CharmsUse 10 Green Faerie CrystalsCollect the Leprechaun's Treasure
The Charm Bracelets are earned through a general news post placed on your wall. Meanwhile, the Lucky Charms are earned from Faerie Gold, which is found scattered around certain areas of this multi-area map. That is, while you're investigating the hedge maze, you'll be able to go into a pit at what looks to be the end of a rainbow. This takes you underground to a map filled with clover patches and snakes, as examples. The Green Faerie Crystals can be found next to walls or other obstacles that you'll need to remove, but you'll need Charm Bracelets in order to interact with them.

Catch the Leprechaun Cath the LeprechaunCollect 10 Four-Leaf Clovers
The Four Leaf Clovers are found inside Clover Patches, each of which has eight "hit points" that you'll need to remove. The Leprechaun, meanwhile, is towards the end of the large underground map here.

Drive Out the Snakes Ask friends for 5 Celtic Knot FlagsPlant 5 Flags to Terrify SnakesDefeat 40 Snakes
You'll earn the Celtic Knot Flags through individual requests sent to friends. The Flags need to be placed on large flag poles that are scattered around the map. You'll find plenty of Snakes scattered throughout this map as well, with them having 10 points of energy each. This entire Expedition is a massive undertaking in terms of the energy required to complete it, so you'll likely need to use all six of your allotted days to finish it off. Good luck!

Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins is the pellet eater's second shot at TV

It's not rare for a failed cartoon to get a reboot, but it is rare for a failed cartoon based on a video game to get another shot. (Well, aside from Sonic, but nobody will let that dream just die.) Imagine our surprise when we learned that Pac-Man, every gamer's favorite yellow game mascot, would get another shot at TV. Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins ... begins in 2013.

Avi Arad, the CEO and founder of Marvel Studios, is producing the 3D animated show for Disney XD, and according to Kotaku, he's behind schedule. Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins follows the lively yellow sphere's teenage years and introduces some new friends to Pac-Man, like a tall magenta blob and a short, pink streaky-haired blob. (Both of which are nameless.)

"I am very excited about producing Pac-Man - The Adventure Begins, the 3D animated series, with Rick Ungar. Pac-Man is one of the world's greatest icons," Arad said in a release. "He is funny and adventurous and will bring his tone and abilities to this beautifully executed animated series. For more than 30 years, Pac-Man has been a household name. Having this property on Disney XD is its rightful place to be."

The animation work behind the show looks absolutely slick, but we're left wondering who this is targeted toward. Unless Namco and Disney have learned that the kids of the iPhone and Xbox age know all about Pac-Man, then we'd have to imagine the two are going for the nostalgia factor. But how many of you adults watch Disney cartoons out of honest interest?

Adventure World Windmill: Increase your energy from 30 to 42

Perhaps more than any other game in Zynga's catalog, energy plays a major role in your progress in Adventure World, but you can now increase your maximum energy cap from 30 (its current maximum) to 42 points by placing and tending your new Windmill.

The Windmill requires you to collect quite a few items before it can actually be built:

7 Metal Blades7 Wooden Trestles7 Drive Shafts7 Spur Gears7 Weather Vanes7 Small Pumps
The Drive Shafts and Small Pumps are found almost exclusively on Expedition maps (you can click on them within the Windmill's menu to be taken to the appropriate maps), while the other four items can also be earned by asking your friends to send them to you.
Once you've finished building the Windmill, you'll be able to tend it once per day using Supplies. The first day that you tend your Windmill, your maximum energy cap will increase by +1, and you'll need to keep tending it once per day to keep it there. Likewise, if you forget to tend it for a full 24 hour period, the cap will drop back down (but can never go back below 30 points). If you're familiar with the Dam in CityVille, this feature is incredibly similar in that respect.

You'll need to upgrade your Windmill by collecting more and more parts, so that you can eventually reach Level 4, and have the most room for improvement. Level 2 will allow you to reach a maximum energy cap of 34 points, and Level 3 will allow you to have up to 38 points. Level 4, of course, finally raises the maximum allowed energy to 42 points. Again, you'll gain a point each day that you tend the Windmill, so long as you continue to do so without missing any days.

Adventure World maker Zynga Boston GM seeks adventure elsewhere

Cue that piano jam from The Incredible Hulk. The Boston Globe and Mass High Tech report that Zynga Boston GM Nabeel Hyatt has left the Zynga subsidiary studio to become a partner at investment firm Spark Capital. Hyatt oversaw the studio's (formerly Conduit Labs), development of Adventure World, Zynga's first game to receive a complete branding overhaul with Indiana Jones.

"The office is still strong and growing," Hyatt told Boston Globe via e-mail, "with a solid success with 'Adventure World' and some other projects underway." According to The Boston Globe, former Pixar animation director and Adventure World product lead Fareed Mosavat has replaced Hyatt as general manager of Cambridge-based Zynga Boston.

Adventure World currently sits at 5.8 million monthly and 790,000 daily players, according to AppData, and hardly one of Zynga's eighth most popular with nearly 10 million fewer monthly players than Empires & Allies. Unfortunately, the game has seen a steady decline since receiving the branding makeover.

Hyatt's background is primarily in in all things entrepreneurial--he founded Conduit Labs to create music-centric social games--so the move makes sense. However, with Adventure World facing a downturn, it will be interesting to see what Zynga Boston cooks up next. Perhaps it's time for something entirely different at Zynga, like a return to the studio's musical roots.

Trivia Adventure blends roleplaying, quiz and board game mechanics into one intriguing package

Trivia Adventure from Austin-based Steel Penny Games is a new Facebook game featuring elements of role-playing, quiz and board games. It launched in the first week of January for early testing by new players, and has been gradually picking up steam as users discover its intriguing blend of genres.

According to our traffic tracking service AppData, Trivia Adventure currently has 2,000 monthly active users and 400 daily active users.

Trivia Adventure is primarily a role-playing game. Players design a character of either gender, name them, choose a character class to enjoy an initial bonus to one of their statistics and are then thrown into a short tutorial introducing them to the game’s basic rules.

The majority of the player’s time in Trivia Adventure is spent exploring dungeons and wilderness areas. Movement around these areas is handled in a board game-like manner. Players draw one of three cards, each of which shows how many spaces they can move. It’s possible to spend soft currency to reveal all three cards if there’s a specific space the player wants to try and land on — for example, one which holds treasure, which can take the form of either items or soft currency.

On certain spaces, the player is required to engage in combat. This is handled in a turn-based manner, with the player usually attacking first. Upon clicking the “Attack” button, a trivia question pops up on screen.  Answering the question correctly gives the player a bonus to the damage they inflict on the enemy they are fighting, while answering incorrectly still allows the player to inflict damage, but also means they receive a greater amount of injury from their opponent.

All actions, whether they are movement or attacking, cost Momentum, the game’s version of energy. Momentum completely refills upon gaining a level, and also gradually tops up over time. Players can also receive Momentum bonuses by sharing their activities to their Facebook walls — there are benefits for friends also playing the game here, too, as players can share questions to their walls, with experience bonuses on offer to those who answer correctly.

Social features for the game include the aforementioned sharing mechanic along with the usual facility to send gifts to friends. A competitive element is also added, as each player’s run through a dungeon is scored according to how much they explored, how much loot they found, questions they answered correctly and streaks of correct answers. Leaderboards are displayed upon each dungeon delve, and players can replay past areas to improve their score.

For Steel Penny Games, whose development background has primarily been in contract work for a number of console developers, social gaming development proved to be a challenge.

“The move to social games was something that proved us wrong,” explains Jeff Everett from the company. “We played the occasional Facebook game in what spare time we had and thought we could do something fun real fast. As it turns out, web development and social games in general have a whole new set of problems we had to solve. Of course, that also meant we had a lot of mistakes to make and learn from before we could get our first game playable!”

The game’s monetization is primarily handled through the sale of hard currency, here known as Steel Pennies. These can be purchased with Facebook Credits and then used to top up Momentum; add soft currency; refill health; purchase premium items from stores; and add benefits to the character, including additional inventory slots or companion pets. Facebook Credits can be bought directly or earned via offer wall.

Trivia Adventure has showed slow but steady growth since its launch in mid-January. The game has already received several updates to improve gameplay, but the developer has plenty of new content in mind for the future.

“We have a pipeline of new locations, enemies, items and questions ready to release as they become finalized,” says Everett. “We plan to continue adding the new content over time, as we monitor our metrics and determine the time of things players enjoy the most. Our game technology allows for us to easily localize not only the game elements, but our questions as well. Since we could not just use the same questions [many of which are U.S.-centric] in other regions of the world, those questions will need to be written with that territory in mind.”

PyramidVille Adventure buries itself into iPhone, iPad Jan. 26 [Video]

Ah, trailers. The number one tool to build hype for an upcoming, well, anything. In this case, of course, it's games, and French social game developer Kobojo looks to build buzz with the launch trailer for PyramidVille Adventure. The game is set to hit both iPhone and iPad this Jan. 26, and while not much has changed since it Facebook, the developer has thrown in a few twists.

Namely, PyramidVille Adventure employs a number of mini games for players to master, which will undoubtedly serve to break up the monotony of running an Egyptian kingdom. Players will get to race ancient Egyptian boats, fend off attackers to defend an Egyptian boat as it crosses the Nile and load supplies into an Egyptian boat. We smell a theme here.

Aside from the nautical mini games, not much seems to have changed. The 'Ville-inspired play hooks are all still present, and will likely be the meat of PyramidVille Adventure. (Nearly 25 percent of the Facebook game's 730,000 monthly players play daily, so it looks like players dig it.) But for zero dollars, it's worth at least a shot when the game lands on Jan. 26. Adventure World 12 Days of Adventure Day 7: Everything you need to know

We've turned a corner, adventurers! We're past the halfway point of the 12 Days of Adventure event in Adventure World, but there are still plenty of Expeditions left, rewarding free prizes up until Christmas. For Day 7, this Expedition is called "Seven Rams-a-Ramming," and it contains - wait for it - Rams! You'll be able to jump into this newest Expedition whenever you'd like, even if you're still working on previous Expeditions in this event or elsewhere, so don't worry about multi-tasking. Here's how to get started.

Day 7: Seven Rams-a-Ramming Ask Friends for 7 Bags of Powdered SugarPlace 7 Bags of Powdered Sugar in Holiday BoxesDefeat 7 Rams
The Bags of Powdered Sugar are earned through a general news item you'll post on your wall, asking all friends to help you out. Once you have them, you'll need to travel around these rocky cliffs placing the items inside green and yellow gift boxes. If you've played other Expeditions in this 12 Days of Adventure event, you'll already be incredibly familiar with the concept. As for the Rams, these are found behind debris like Bushes and Shrubs, and each has seven Hit Points. Depending on how far you've upgraded your whip, each can take a lot of energy to defeat, as you may need to attack each three or more times, along with losing a few energy points when they counter-attack.

We assumed that these Expeditions would become harder as we went along, and that's definitely the case here. Well, perhaps "harder" isn't the word; time and energy consuming, however, definitely describes this one accurately. When you do finish this Expedition, you'll receive a Monkey Carolers decoration for your Base Camp.

Adventure World Sneak Peek: Coffee Plant energy boosts coming soon

Note: This feature is unreleased as-of-this-writing, but should be launching any day. Here's a guide on what you'll find once the Coffee Plant launches in your game.

Earlier this week, we brought you a brief sneak peek concerning a new Base Camp-focused energy boost system that will be coming to Adventure World in the near future. Well, once this update rolls around to every users' Camp, we'll all have the ability to place a Coffee Plant on our Base Camps for use everyday. This Coffee Plant serves as a one-stop-shop of sorts, allowing you to earn six free energy everyday - that's one collection for six energy once every 24 hours, if we're being technical.

It looks like we'll need to build this plant using building materials (I know, "building" a plant doesn't make much sense to me either), so if you visit your friends and tend their already completed plants, you'll have a chance to receive these building materials for your own. If you both already have completed plants, these visits will result in bonus coins for you and a random chance at receiving free energy.

While six energy still likely won't be enough to guarantee success at any of your current tasks, you'll be able to ask your friends for help in earning even more energy from the plant. Every 24 hours, you will have the ability to send out a request to friends, asking them to join a crew of sorts, which boosts the amount of energy you'll receive from the Coffee Plant. If six of your friends join your crew within that 24 hour period, you'll receive another 12 energy the next time you check on the plant within the game. That gives you a potential to earn 18 extra energy each day you play the game.

Whether you want to ask friends to help you or not, the six daily energy will still be yours. If you have plenty of neighbors, however, feel free to continue asking your friends for help daily for more energy. Just keep in mind that you might need those friend requests later on, when asking for items in Expeditions or story-quests, so make sure you're willing to "waste" them on this potential for extra energy.

It seems as though the folks at Zynga didn't expect players to finish the Temple of the Mask and Great Stampede Expeditions as quickly as they did in Adventure World, as parts three and four were nowhere to be found... until today, that is. Part three is called the Jungle Hunt, and like the other two in this series, you'll have six full days to complete it. You'll need to have 450 Supplies, along with two each of Food, Fuel and Water before you begin, and you'll also be able to bring in five friends with you for extra energy. Keep in mind that these Mask Expeditions are still pretty challenging, or can be incredibly time consuming if you're not prepared before going in / don't have a lot of active neighbors, but our guide will show you just what's expected of you before you spend all of those Supplies to enter.

Escape the Jungle! Use 3 Jaguar Bait from your Gadget Inventory Use your Whip to Knock Out 3 Monkey Kongs Find the Mouth to the Mask of the Hunter

While you've fought off spiders and rams in the previous two Expeditions, this third one requires you to face off against a Jaguar, along with more Monkeys. You'll need to have a fully built "Zoey's Tent" back on your Base Camp in order to access this new Jaguar Bait gadget, but if you're fast (or, are comfortable wasting a lot of energy on fighting them), you can get a lot done while trying to gather the ingredients to craft them elsewhere in the game. As for the Monkeys, you'll find that early on, this map splits into two main paths, and then reconnects at a bridge just before you make it to the Mouth piece at the end. Two monkeys are found after a grapple point if you head to the right path, from your perspective (that is, towards the right side of your screen, not from your player's perspective).

Here, you'll gather the Black Ink by posting a general news item on your wall asking for them. Make sure to look out for other friends asking for the ink, as you'll receive one for yourself by clicking on their posts. The Woolly Mammoth bones are at the very beginning of the map, before the path splits into two, while the Sabre-Tooth bones are on the right path, near the two Monkeys pictured above. Finally, the Serpent Bones are on the left path, right out in the open. If you're trying to finish the Expedition as quickly as possible, you can claim bottles of Black Ink by interacting with the desks that are found in this map's camp sites (by the bottles needed below).

While the adult Jaguars are enraged by the presence of the mask, they've abandoned their cubs! If you don't help them, they'll surely parish, so you'll need to gather milk from crates scattered around the map, and then simply click on cubs to help them. One cub is towards the beginning of this entire map, so don't forget to backtrack and get him (if all else fails, just click on the "Show Me" button to be shown a cub).

When you finish this third Expedition in the Mask of the Hunter series, you will finally be able to move onto the finally of this feature.
