The Nintendo 3DS may have been the best-selling overall video game system in the United States for August, but when it comes specifically to traditional consoles (that aren't handheld), the Xbox 360 remains top dog. Xbox 360 was the top-selling console for the month of August in the United States. It marks the thirty-second consecutive month it has led console sales. Microsoft is hoping to replicate its console success in the United States with the release of the Xbox One, coming this November. Despite a rough period early on with consumers, Microsoft has reversed a lot of its unpopular policies. We don't know exact pre-order numbers, but the Xbox One continues to sell out at retailers and Microsoft maintains the console is in high demand.
The big question, however, is whether or not this demand is more than the PlayStation 4 which has over one million pre-orders worldwide.
