PS4 Confirmed to be Compatible with the Xbox One

Based on separate statements from both Sony and Microsoft, it has been confirmed that you will be able to connect the PlayStation 4 to the Xbox One's HDMI port and stream the PS4 through the Xbox One. Such as thing was possible in theory, but both companies had to confirm there were no blocking functions on either end. They did so without referring to the other.

Shuhei Yoshida confirmed on Twitter that they had decided to reverse policies so that the PlayStation 4 will not block any external device taking its HDMI feed to stream or record it. The big news was this will allow players to upload their play sessions to YouTube, but it can be used in other ways.

Microsoft, meanwhile, at their TGS presentation explained that the Xbox One would be able to take any video feed coming in from the HDMI port and stream it through the console. Later Albert Penello further detailed, stating that if consumers wanted to they could play Ryse and Killzone at the same time. Killzone is a PlayStation exclusive, so it is a rather roundabout way to saying yes your PS4 will stream through your Xbox One.

Not many people will do this, but it is nice for the consumers to have the options. Especially if they want an all in one media hub without having to change inputs or connections.

Diablo 3 confirmed for Xbox 360 release, coming to consoles in September

We've known for a while now that Diablo 3 was coming to PlayStation consoles, but in a surprise announcement today, Blizzard confirmed that the action RPG would also be released on Xbox 360. The console version of Diablo 3 will be available on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 3.

As previously detailed, the console versions have been custom-tailored for console controllers, with an all-new user interface. It features up to four player same-screen local cooperative or online over PSN and Xbox LIVE. Pre-ordering either version will net you an exclusive in-game item: the Infernal Helm.

Kinect for Windows Confirmed for 2014 Release

Microsoft has confirmed that Kinect 2 will be coming to Windows PCs soon after Xbox One is released.

This is an essential step in Microsoft's strategic plan to expand Kinect's use to business and other groups aside from gamers.

"We're continuing our commitment to equipping businesses and organizations with the latest natural technology from Microsoft so that they, in turn, can develop and deploy innovative touch-free applications for their businesses and customers," Kinect for Windows director Bob Heddle wrote on Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN).

"Both the new Kinect sensor and the new Kinect for Windows sensor are being built on a shared set of technologies. The precision and intuitive responsiveness that the new platform provides will accelerate the development of voice and gesture experiences on computers."

Kinect 2 is able to detect subtle hand and finger movements thanks to its updated 1080p camera and infrared sensor. Microsoft will show off more about it at the BUILD 2013 conference in June. Confirmed: Zynga proposes secondary offering

Zynga confirmed a planned secondary offering today with a Securities and Exchange Commission filing for certain Zynga stockholders to offer shares of Class A common stock. The developer doesn’t receive any proceeds from the sale of the shares.

The CityVille creator uses a three tiered stock system, with Class A having the lowest voting power of the three. The other two stock types hold 98.2 percent of shareholder voting power. According to the filing, the purpose of the secondary offering is to increase the company’s public float. According to an anonymous source in Bloomberg’s initial report, the offering also allows investors to sell some stock while making larger shareholders agree to a longer lockup period that prevents them from unloading shares.

Given how dramatically Zynga’s stock price fluctuates whenever new revenue and traffic figures become public information, it makes sense that it would try to create some stability among its stockholders. The developer’s market cap shot up 12 percent to $8.66 billion from $7.4 billion immediately after Facebook’s S-1 filing. Share prices dropped nearly 18 percent just 13 days later after Zynga’s first earnings call as a publicly traded company. Zynga’s platform announcement earlier this month boosted share price by almost 10 percent. Today, trading opened at $13.44 per share — and looks to be on the rise as news of the secondary offering spreads.

Meanwhile on the traffic front as recorded by our AppData traffic tracking service, Zynga’s daily active users are dipping slightly — down almost 2 percent in the last week to 55.6 million.

EA transplant to Zynga confirmed: Jeff Karp joins as marketing head

The cat has been officially removed from the bag ... by Zynga. The FarmVille creator confirmed to us that Jeff Karp (pictured), former executive VP of EA's casual games label, EA Play, has been hired as Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer at Zynga. Of course, Karp will oversee all marketing operations at the $11.5 billion company (at least), as well as international sales.

Before joining Zynga, Karp enjoyed 11 years at EA in various executive positions including chief revenue officer of the EA Games label. It was there he oversaw international marketing for properties like Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Mass Effect and more, according to Zynga's statement.

This EA-Zynga transplant joins a number of high-level traitors former EA executives. Most recently it's rumored that Mark Turmell, senior creative director at EA Sports and creator of NBA Jam, has joined Zynga. Just this June, former GM of EA-owned Easy Studios Ben Cousins joined Ngmoco to head its Sweden studio. And there are plenty more to mention.

It's unfortunate that just as the company goes full speed ahead into social and casual games with one of the biggest buys in recent gaming history that some of its most important positions have gone temporarily vacant. But it looks like The Sims Social could already be the shot in the arm EA needed--it's already attracted over 7 million players.
