Fable Anniversary delayed until February 2014

Lionhead Studios' Ted Timmins made a blog post to the studio's website today announcing that Fable Anniversary needs more time to become the best game it can possibly be. Fable Anniversary, which is an HD remake of the original Fable, was supposed to be out this holiday season, but it is now delayed until February 2014.

The blog post says, "It's not easy making these decisions and I know that us asking you to wait a little longer whilst we get to play test the game every day is downright unfair, so over the next few weeks we're going to be sharing with you more screenshots, more game footage and perhaps even some... top secret announcements!"

I feel like this game would've done well over the holiday season, but delaying it might actually help it in sales. That'll leave the holiday season to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, give it time to die down a bit, and then hopefully February doesn't see a lot of big releases.

Earlier this month, we brought you a preview of CityVille's upcoming second birthday celebration on Facebook, which started with a Fireworks Barge that players can now place in the water outside of their city's land. Now, the anniversary celebration has really been kicked up a notch, as a party plane has "accidentally" spilled all of the game's 2nd Anniversary Gifts all over your town. You'll need to find them all over a limited time period in order to win some major prizes, including XP, Zoning Permits, and even free land expansions. We're here with a look at this feature, thanks to Zynga. Let's get started!

Track the Packages Ask friends for 15 GPS Trackers Expand your City Open an Anniversary Cargo Container
First things first, the GPS Trackers can be earned by posting a general news item to your feed, asking your friends for help. If you're looking to finish this task more easily, make sure to play and post while on Zynga.com, as you can rely on both strangers and friends for help at the same time. Meanwhile, the city expansion can be completed by collecting enough Zoning Permits and by adding population to your town, just as you would expand normally outside of any goal. Finally, the Anniversary Cargo Container task will show you the menu below, which contains a list of the five packages that have been scattered around your game. Clicking on "Show Me" below any container warps the map to that view point, as you can see the packages outside of your town's limits.

To open the first Blue Anniversary Gift, you'll need to collect five each of Thank You Cards, Party Hats, Ribbon Shears, Birthday Cakes, and Anniversary Banners. These items are earned mostly through a combination of general news posts and individual friend requests, but the Ribbon Shears are earned by tending "City Anniversary" buildings that have been launched in the game's store. The coin options here are a Party Supply Store and Blue Anniversary Retreat Home, which cost 150,000 coins or 100,000 coins each, respectively. Thankfully, you can work on collecting these building materials before actually expanding your city to the Blue Anniversary Gift's square. If you can complete this first goal before this event expires in 20 days, you'll earn three Zoning Permits and 50,000 coins.

Each container is opened in a similar fashion, so you'll need to be prepared to ask your friends for a ton of items, and must be willing to purchase plenty of Anniversary themed buildings to speed up the process. You could stick with just having one or two, but this entire birthday event is timed, so wasting time waiting for those few buildings isn't really the best way to go about things. Either way, completing this goal gives you 7 Zoning Permits and 100,000 coins.

While this goal has tasks that sound easy in theory, they're incredibly time consuming to complete, as you'll need to go through the separate "unlocking" process for each of the five Cargo Containers both in and around your city's limits. Once you do that, you'll be eligible for the grand prize: an Anniversary Tower for your city! You'll also receive 200,000 coins and 500 XP for finishing this final goal of the three. Again, this event is being timed, and you have just 20 days to finish all three goals and open all five containers before the second birthday celebration leaves the game. Good luck opening all of these containers and receiving all of your prizes in time!

Gift Ideas for a 50th Wedding Anniversary

The big 50. The fiftieth wedding anniversary is an important, yet seldom reached milestone in any couple's relationship. Unlike other anniversaries, this one is such a 'biggie' that other people can feel free to celebrate it too (with the happy couple's consent, of course). Traditionally, this is the 'golden wedding', and if you are into flowers, the violet is the main theme. Typically, the kids will want to take the celebrating parents out for a nice meal, but gifts too can be given. Remember that it is not the value of the gift that is important, it is the thought that went into it!

So what to give? Depending on budget, how about one of the following:-

* A photo of the couple in a gilt (gold) frame. * Get a painting done from a photo of the couple - these are not as expensive as you might think. you can even do a version yourself by scanning a photo into your PC and then using the 'Art' filters in your paint package to turn it into a work of art. * If you have more than one photo, you could create a scrapbook of them for your folks, bound up in silk ribbon. * Nice wines or gift baskets containing the things they love (especially if they are on a diet - today is not a day for being strict with yourself!) * If money is no object, how about a weekend break? You can get some nice 'getaway' cruises of city breaks quite cheaply nowadays. Just make sure they can still travel! * Do they have major hobbies? Bird spotting? How about some new lightweight binoculars? Golf? How about some new clubs or a set of top of the range balls? * If they are fans of a charity, see if you can make a donation in their name. It is possible to sponsor rare animals these days, and the WWF will happily send you details if you ask. * AVOID trying to help them directly in a financial sense, the chances are that no matter how much they would like money, they would prefer to keep their dignity more. * AVOID 'gift certificates'. This implies that you know they have interests, but can't be bothered to do anything about them. * AVOID trying to 'muscle in' on their big day. You might think it will show love to try and organize everything, cook the food personally etc, but believe you me, at this age, they need their space, and will appreciate straight gifts or restaurant treats far a more. Never outstay your welcome - they don't have as much stamina as they used to!

Saturday, February 19, 2011 GDC Bosslady Blog: GDC25's Anniversary Highlights, Attendee Gifts, Expansion

[In her Bosslady Blog update for the GSW sister event, Game Developers Conference event director Meggan Scavio reveals a partnership with I Am 8-Bit for conference attendee posters and 'Paint By Pixels', an expansion into Moscone West, and other major highlights of the February 28th-March 4th show in San Francisco.]

Hopefully by now you realize what a milestone year it is for Game Developers Conference. This will be the 25th time that GDC -- or rather, an iteration of GDC -- has occured.

Notice that I didn't say 25th year or anniversary? The launch of our show was in 1988, and two events were held that year. The first took place in the living room of our founder, Chris Crawford, near San Jose, CA, and was called the Computer Game Developers Conference. It was such a hit that a second event was scheduled later that year in a proper convention center.

There are a number of ways in which we're celebrating GDC 25:

- First and foremost, we're bringing back GDC founder and Balance Of Power designer Chris Crawford to present a special anniversary lecture titled 'In Days of Yore'. Chris is a famously energetic speaker, as you can see by the infamous finale of his 1992 'dragon' speech at CGDC. I suggest doing what you can to see this talk.

- Of course, we wanted to give conference attendees a special gift for our 25th edition. We were contacted by someone who wanted to create commemorative GDC plates (I'm not making this up!), but we went with a special two-part gift we're revealing for the first time here. We're partnering with the fine folks at I Am 8-Bit and each GDC 2011 conference attendee will get a random selection of two posters - out of a complete set of four - that creatively reflect the last 25+ years of game development.

Another project that I Am 8-Bit has created for us is Paint by Pixels. At registration, conference attendees will be given one 'pixel', and they can participate by attaching it to an initially blank canvas, to construct a 20-by-8-foot pixel portrait by designer Jude Buffum.. Make sure to make your own contribution to the 5,760 pixels needed to complete the image!

- The Classic Game Postmortem series was also borne out of a GDC 25 brainstorm. Putting this lecture series together might have been one of the most fun things I've done for GDC yet. Every person I asked was so excited to participate and revisit their early, sometimes defining titles, from Pac-Man through DOOM to Populous and beyond.

It will be interesting to see what inspiration is drawn from hearing how the classics were created. If all goes well, we may make this a regular series. And don't worry if you can't get into any of those lectures this year or don't have time, we'll be recording all of the Classic Postmortem sessions for free GDC Vault viewing after the show.

- We talked a lot about who the keynote would be this year. First off, I personally love the idea of only one main keynote at GDC. Since we don't program against it, attendees have no choice in content during that hour. If you are not interested in seeing the keynote, there is nothing else for you to do. Each major keynote is the equivalent of about 20 sessions we don't program. That's a lot of content to lose for a single lecture that not everyone wants to attend.

What this also means is that we need to get our choice right. With this being GDC 25, we wanted our keynote to reflect that long history. When considering game companies who have been successful for 25 years and counting, how do you not think of Nintendo? That's why we're delighted to welcome the company's CEO Satoru Iwata this year.

- There's one last item that is new this year -- but not necessarily because of our milestone. 2011 marks the first year that GDC truly takes over all 3 buildings of the Moscone Center - North, South, and West. Last year was a little rough at times, spacewise, since some sessions had definite capacity issues.

We wanted to do what we could to avoid that, and our only option this year was to expand even further. There aren't more sessions, but there are bigger rooms and thousands of more seats. We're not claiming that you will never, ever be at a loss for a seat -- we're not miracle workers -- but we've tried our very best.

So, wear comfortable shoes, plan your schedule carefully, check out our lecture recommendations for the media if you'd like, bring your business cards, and prepare yourself for a week of learning, networking, inspiration and total awesomeness. See you there!
